Hello! I’m Rachel Mairose, your Leiden blogger for this semester! I attend school at Briar Cliff University in Iowa, but I hail from Kimball, South Dakota (it’s almost exactly in the middle of the state). My hometown, even with its paltry population of around 800, is famous for its homemade popcorn balls. I grew up on a farm and ranch with my nine siblings, herd of goats, and other farm animals. At home, I give myself the title of goat-enthusiast, but at Briar Cliff, I am an English and Political Science junior. I like to stay busy, so at school I work four jobs; my favorite is working as a writing mentor in the writing center on campus.
It’s hard to believe that the next time I post I will be in the Netherlands! Until then, I’m going to mentally pack my suitcase a few more hundred times in my sleep and continue to open my desk drawer every five minutes to make sure my passport hasn’t run off.
