My name is Daniel Gerow and I attend St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. I chose the Leiden program because I wanted to do something different in comparison to other people at my school. Furthermore, I chose the program because I have heard nothing but great things about the Netherlands. While I’m over there, I will be taking the required course of a Dutch language course and “The Netherlands and Its European Context.” I will also be hopefully taking two Psychology courses to help me finish my minor while studying abroad. Lastly, and possibly the most exciting part, is that I will be participating in a service learning program. I’ve had many friends take part in these programs while abroad and they’ve all had great things to say about doing these programs.
While abroad, I hope to just gain a new point of view on the world. Between growing up on a farm and going to a high school that was 65% Native American, I’ve already had an interesting up bringing, and this experience going abroad will hopefully give me a different perspective on how another culture lives. Furthermore, while abroad I hope to be able to travel a bit and see other parts of Europe and enjoy the food and lifestyles of different places throughout Europe. Lastly, I would love to just become a member of the Leiden community. Between taking part in the service learning program and hopefully joining some sort of soccer/football league while in Leiden, I can gain acceptance from the locals and gain a deeper access into their culture/life.
