Homecoming week was a blast!!!! The dress up days were fantastic, lots of great school spirit. On Friday we had the annual lemming race. Lots of crazy costumes, which made it a lot of fun to watch. We had a huge win over the Coe College Kohowks who were 3-0 and coming into the homecoming game. Later that night everyone headed to the big dance where there were lots of people and fun!! The football team is now ranked 10th in Division III football. The JV Dutch is 3-1, with a huge win over rival Simpson last night 40-0.

Oh Monday Mornings…

Hello again! Today is a beautiful (cold) day in Pella.

Last weekend was homecoming and it was a lot of fun. Friday night was the Lemming Race. For those of you who don’t know what that is a bunch of people on campus dress up with their friends and run into the pond. Costumes focus on a variety of themes such as beauty queens, bananas, cavemen, cops and robbers, h1n1, and harry potter. I didn’t participate but some of my friends did. They were NWO wrestlers. I’m not big on jumping into dirty, smelly, green, pond water but it’s fun to watch everyone else. Just make sure its from a distance because bystanders do get pushed/pulled in.  Saturday was the football game and dance. I didn’t get to go to the game because I had to work at ISU for softball but we won which is all that matters. We beat Coe 24-6. The dance that night was really fun. The theme was masquerade. We had the chance to make masks eariler in the week so some people wore those.  There were are a lot of poeple there. It was really fun to dress up and hang out with all my friends. I’m already excited for next year.

Now it’s monday morning and I am exhausted. I had a foreign language lab early this morning. I rolled out of bed ten minutes before and just threw on some sweats and a sweatshirt over my pjs and left – it’s great to be so close to my classes!  This week shouldn’t be too busy. I have to run the mile today for softball and I’m not looking forward to it. I’m not a distance runner so there is no way I’m gonna finish in 7mins plus it’s cold out, and as much as I hate running I hate running in the cold even more. I’m just gonna have to suck it up. Maybe it’ll be motivation to run faster. We’ll see how it goes.

I should probably do my homework for today since I didn’t yesterday and get some breakfast.

Enjoy your week! :)

Greetings to everyone out there reading this blog!

My name is Liza Calisesi and I’ll be one of the bloggers this fall. I can’t say that I will be cooking 500+ Julia Child recipes throughout the course of the semester, however, I will highlight some of the classes, activities, and events that take place on and off Central’s campus.

Before we get started here’s a little bit about me:

I am a senior music major and not-for-profit business & French minor from Fort Dodge, Ia. I’m involved in a plethora of music activities – the A’Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers, College Community Choir, Jazz Combos, Organ lessons, and I’m directing the Bell Choir this semester! This past May, the A’Cappella Choir went on tour to Italy for about 2 weeks – an incredible experience to share our music on an international level while enjoying delicious Italian pizza and gelato!

Enjoying some pizza in Italia! <—-Enjoying some pizza in Italia!

Aside from music, I work for the Central College Admissions Office giving tours and taking perspective students to lunch, and keep up on my French by partaking in French Club.

One year ago this fall, I studied abroad in France. Simply stated: one of the greatest semesters of my 21 years. While I was abroad I took French language courses, voice lessons (in French!), and completed an independent study on world music. Although I kept busy with course work, I found a generous amount of time to indulge in the magnificent city where I was living – Paris! I became a local, spoke the language, attended many many concerts, and of course, traveled throughout Europe – Southern France, Italy, Austria, Sweden, and England. I made wonderful memories with many international friends and my cultural knowledge and artistic vision was greatly heightened.

With a not-for-profit business minor, I thought it would be wise to seek an internship the summer after my junior year. So, this past summer I had the fine opportunity to intern for the Des Moines Symphony/Academy. A past Central grad. had informed me about the internship; it was a great “real-world” experience and went hand-in-hand with my music major and not-for-profit business minor.

Ok, I think I’ve covered enough about me.

I don’t have too many photos from this semester, but considering this weekend is Central’s Homecoming - they will be coming soon!

Ciao for now!

Liza

Starting off the year…

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to start my blog about my life at Central College. I’ve never blogged before so this should be fun.

Where to begin? Freshman year has gotten off to a pretty good start. I am really enjoying my classes. They definately aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. Currently, I’m working on a lab report and intersections paper, both due Thursday, and I’m studying for a German test I have Tuesday and a Biology test Thursday. I’m a little nervous about my Biology test. It’s the first one so I’m not quite sure what to expect.  Softball is great. Our fall season is coming to an end which means no more 5am practice until February. Early morning practice isn’t as bad as it sounds. The first day sucks but you get used to it. It’s nice to get practice out of the way so you have the rest of your day free to do whatever. Yesterday was the annual fall inter-squad scrimmage. It was my first unofficial college softball game. It was a lot of fun. I was on the red team and we dominated. (I actually have no clue if we won or not since the scoreboard wasn’t on but I’m pretty sure it was us.) It was a good way to end the fall season and I look forward to the spring.

Well I guess I should get to work on my lab report and paper and probably study a little bit too. This week is homecoming week so I probably won’t get much done so it’s better that I start now.

Have a great week! :)

GO DUTCH!!
