This Friday will be the first pre-season home game. The Rams won their first pre-season in New York againest the Jets. I was in a meeting yesterday and went over what I would be doing for this first game and games to come. I will be helping with promotions and helping with the tailgate outside of the dome.

Training camp is almost over. There is one practice left and as I am looking forward to the regular season, I am going to miss training camp. I got to meet a lot of cool and famous athletes. Camp itself has run very smooth because the people I work with are great. Communications is great in the Rams organization. I am looking forward to the upcoming months.

I will have more after the game…….

Training Camp

Training camp has been going on for about a week now and it has been an awesome experience. I start every morning at the training facility about 7:15. Me and a couple training camp interns set up our kids clubs tent and assist with the set-up of our sales and marketing tent. Camp is open to the public a half hour before the practice starts. Once practice starts we have 4 separate jobs we rotate through. They are the runner (who helps the other people when they need it), the check-in desk, the marketing tent attendant, and the kids club tent. All these jobs let me interact with the fans which is the best part about training camp besides watching an NFL team practice.

Today, I got to meet President H.W Bush’s brother. He is connected to Ram’s. That was a cool experience. I have met a lot of the players and coaches.

Training camp runs til the 23rd of August. This Friday there is an open to the public scrimmage at one of the local universities.

More from training camp will come……

This weekend was awesome. My parents and grandparents came down from central Iowa to visit for the weekend. They got here on about 7 on friday night and we went to dinner at Albert Pujols restaurant “Pujols 5.” It was a good night. The food was great and we had a great time. The restaurant is located in Westport Plaza which includes four or five restaurants in an old fashioned setting.

Saturday morning I had to wake up and work an event at the St. Louis Science Center. I had to sit at the Rams tent and sign people up for the kids club and manage the staff workers that we hired for the event. I got to work with a couple Rams cheerleaders. It was a successful event because we got a lot of people to come through our tent and sign-up.

We went to dinner that night at a Microbrewery called Trailhead. They brew their own beer and it is incredible!!! It is set back on the river and in an old fashioned setting.

On Sunday, we went to Grants Farm. This is a special farm south of St. Louis. It is owned by Anheuser-Busch. It was an awesome assortment of animals ranging from Texas longhorns to African elephants. It also has the Budweiser Clydesdales and they live in their own stable. They are basically treated like royalty there. Everything is perfect there. It didn’t look like anything was out of place.

We then went to lunch at an excellent Mexican restaurant called Hacienda. It was delicious.

All in all it was an awesome weekend with the family.

Also, I found out that instead of this just being just a summer internship, I was offered to stay on for the whole season til January. I took this opportunity and I am looking forward to it. Training camp starts on Thursday so things will be picking up. I am looking forward to it.

Last weekend was the MLB All-Star game here in St. Louis. It was a great enviroment in St. Louis. I signed up to work the Commissioner’s VIP party. This was an invitation only party. I got the chance to see Nelly in concert and see a few of the players. I served beer til about 12:30am that night. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity because the all-star game is something that I may never see again or be in the same town. I had to wear a white dress shirt and black dress slacks along with a vest.

I had a great time with this event, I was going to take pictures, but security wouldn’t allow for it because the media wasn’t allowed into the party.

This was something that I am glad I did and I will remember this for a long time to come….

Hey,

Thought I would update you on what is going on in St. Louis. I should have said this earlier, but I am living in University City, which is in St. Louis. My apartment is about 15 minutes from the training facility. It is a fairly big one bedroom.  The area is very nice. I am about 2 miles from an area called the “Loop”. The Loop has a bunch of great restaurants and bars. It is a great place to go out at night. I have been out a couple times there and have always had a great time.

There are two other interns that I work with. One is a marketing and sales intern like me and the other is a community outreach intern.  I have become really good friends with these two and the other people I work with because we work so close together. What has really helped me adapt to working with these people was all the team activities that I did when I was at Central. In almost all my business classes I did a group project with people that I was put into a group with. I really think that is why I am able to work so well with people.

A lot of the things I do during the day are intern tasks: mailing things, stuffing envelopes. But in the past weeks I have gotten to sit in on sponsorship meetings. I am going to a meeting tomorrow that involves restaurant sponsorship opportunities.  This is the corporate sales aspect of my internship. I really like this part because I get to deal with people.

I do a lot of things for fun. I love to play golf and a lot of the guys I work with like to as well. There are a lot of courses around where I live.  The nightlife is awesome. There are a ton of great bars. I am not one to sit around, so I love to go out and have a good time.  I have been out to happy hour a couple times with the people from work. It is great to be able to hang out with the people that you work with. It lets you get to know people that you work with, which I think lets you do your job better because it is easier for you to communicate with them after you get to know them outside the office.

Training camp starts at the end of July, so I will have some good pictures and stories for that. But the MLB all-star game is next week and I am working the VIP tent across the street from the stadium on the night of the Home Run Derby. That is going to be awesome.

It was awesome because today I got to go down to the dome where the Rams play and take a tour of it. They are doing a $30 million renovation of the dome, so there was construction all over the place. I got to eat lunch at a casino downtown which has great food. The renovation are going to make this dome one of the most technologically advances dome in the NFL. They are putting up new LED boards all over and redoing their suites to make the fan experience reach new heights. Right now we are just getting for training camp so it is a very busy time with sponsor contracts and making sure the camps run smoothly.

Today was a very interesting day. I got to participate in a playground build in East St. Louis. It was sponsored by the St. Louis Rams and about 35 other organizations. I was a build captain for this and I was in charge of a mulching team for the playground. The group that I was the leader of was the running backs, this included star running back Stephen Jackson.

This morning it rained and we had to take breaks inside the community center next door. While in there I got to meet I handful of community members. This was a great opportunity to be exposed a variety of different people that I have not been exposed too.  There was music playing all day. It was raining all morning which made the site one big mud hole!

At the end of the day there was a ribbon cutting ceremony and all the volunteers were thanked. This was one of me better experiences volunteer because there were so many volunteered around a one central cause and that was to build a great playground for a much needed area.

More to come soon…….

Today I started at my internship with the St. Louis Rams. I got there this morning and my boss showed me around the facility and I met a lot of nice people. People from the marketing department, public relations, coaching staff and upper management. I was walking down the stairs for lunch and got introduced to the head coach. Today was a learning experience, but it was a great day.
